Teacher Jeanette Victor
has been appointed at
our school since

responsible for teaching
ART, MUSIC and
ENGLISH from Grade

Grade 1 students also
have an “Orientation and Bonding” class with her. She is
responsible for an English Camp held during summer vacation,
coaching students for an English Reader Theatre Competition and
writing articles for our School Magazine. Meetings with Grade
teachers are held on a weekly basis and staff members attend an
English Conversation Class every Friday.
The Background__South Africa
Teacher Jeanette is originally from SOUTH AFRICA.
SOUTH AFRICA is known as the Rainbow Nation. There are 11
official languages in South Africa. Of South Africa’s almost 55
million population around 80 percent is African, about 9 percent is
white, and just under 9 percent is mixed race. About 2.5 per cent
are descendants of Indian labourers.
South Africa is full of RECORD-BREAKING ANIMALS. It’s where
you’ll find the largest land mammal (elephant), the largest bird
(ostrich), the tallest animal (giraffe), the largest fish (whale shark),
the largest reptile (leatherback turtle), the fastest land mammal
(cheetah) and the largest antelope (eland.)
The first successful HEART TRANSPLANT was carried out in Cape
Town, South Africa by Dr Barnard.
Teacher Jeanette told us that although she loves her country,
Taiwan is now where her heart is. And she believes where your
heart is, is your HOME.
The Expectation
She feels very fortunate and excited to be part of the BILINGUAL
PROGRAMME that has been implemented at Qing Pu Elementary
School.
Here students are not only taught GRAMMAR proficiency but
ORAL fluency and COMMUNICATING with each on a daily basis.
It’s important to remember one language is NOT BETTER than
another but ENGLISH is considered a language of GLOBAL
COMMUNICATION. ENGLISH is a tool that can help with access to
jobs and advancement in a person’s future career. Also European
universities increasingly offer programmes in English.
Students at Qing Pu Elementary are very privileged to be part of
the Bilingual Programme.
